System-wide functional analysis consists of the identification of the internal functions of the different circuits and equipment integral to the system, which are vital to its optimum functioning. As such, it is an essential component of a FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis).
The depth level of the analysis in question relies solely on the objectives fixed by the company doing the study. The deeper the analysis goes in approaching the component level, the more precise is the analysis and the longer the study takes.
The functional analysis generally comes out of the physical graph or diagram that regroups and identifies the functions and the equipment needed for their completion by the sub-systems.
A functional schema allows a better understanding of the interrelations between the different systems and sub-systems of which it is composed.
